Characteristics of the EquineBasically, the horse is a non-ruminant herbivore and about 65% of his digestive capacity is in the hindgut. By design horses, are continual grazers, meaning that they will eat frequent but small meals. This differs quite a bit with how we actually feed horses today in our management systems, since most of us feed our horses two meals, morning and in the evening. The more we can spread that out, the more we would actually mimic what’s going on...would be more suitable for what the horse is designed to do.
