Introduction to Nutrition of the Western Performance Horse

Today, what I want to do is go into a little more detail in the different nutrients as they apply to the performance horse. And some of the things that we have to keep in mind are the work load of the horse. In other words, how much is that horse working over a 24-hour period. That will obviously be very important when we put together the ration and how much energy and how much protein, how much of some of the other nutrients the horse has to get. We will have to look at their body condition. Specifically, what that means is, the total body fat content and estimation system that is being used on horses. We are going to look at the source of calories. And then at exercise.
