Group Discussion

After you have read the Lecture and the assigned reading in the text, go to your group discussion board by clicking on "GROUPS" on the main Blackboard menu. You will find you have been placed in a discussion group.

Table 1, included in this Lecture, shows some characteristics of the major social institutions. I'd like your group to take one institution, Sports, and think about some of the patterns that make up that institution. Create a table showing as many of the values, norms, statuses/roles, and groups that you all can think of that are associated with sports.

Your contribution to this group discussion can earn you up to 10 point for the week. Points are earned for both frequency and quality of participation. I'd like this to be a discussion so only one posting during the week will not earn full points.

The person whose last name is closest to the first of the alphabet should be "the leader" for this week. The Leader's responsibility is to organize the group's discussion and to post the result on the main Discussion Board on Friday, April 9.
