Unit 7

President Bush has proposed that we begin a space program to put people on Mars in the near future. There has been a certain amount of debate over this proposal in the media.

What I’d like for you to do as an Activity for Week Seven is to look at some of those debates – on TV, newspapers, magazines, or on the internet – and identify one idealist argument and one materialist argument. You can use statements that are either support or oppose the proposal. I’m interested in your ability to identify different kinds of arguments. Let’s generate a list so we have some real life examples.

I’ll set up a special thread where you can report your findings. Be sure to list the source of the statements as well the quotes that you find.
