| Description | Smallest of Sciurus, but larger than Tamiasciurus. Body gray, venter white. Tail and face gray with red. |
| Skull Characteristics | Small P3 often present according to references, but not on our specimens. All Sciurus tree squirrels have similar characteristics: Zygomatic arches mostly vertical, not twisted to horizontal as in ground squirrels. Skull more angular, less streamlined, with a more robust postorbital process than ground squirrels. |
