Habitat deserts, sage, shrub-steppe, and open grassland.
Description Largest member of genus. Soft-furred. Tan or yellowish buff above, with dark hairs; white (usually) or buff below; Similar to P. longimembris with more distinct yellow-tan line on sides. Long distinctly bicolored tail, whitish below, tip slightly tufted, tip not dark. Use range map for species ID.
Skull Characteristics Larger than P. longimembris, skull length > 24 mm. "Wings” on arches smaller and auditory bullae less inflated than Dipodomys.
