| Description | Tail has a black stripe that extends all the way to the black tip; no white tip. Body gray back, tan/reddish/white below, legs NOT black (cp. red fox). Colors more bold, with more contrast than swift fox. (cp. kit fox). |
| Skull Characteristics | Well-developed temporal ridges (~ 3 mm wide) that form a U shape. Angle of jaw has a notch (lateral view). All foxes: Postorbital process concave on dorsal surface. |
