| Description | Face convex, muzzle often lighter in color. Pelage can range from black to brown to blonde to cinnamon red. Lack well defined shoulder hump. |
| Skull Characteristics | Sagittal and lambdoidal crests small compared to U. arctos, but this varies with age and gender. M2 (last upper molar) <150% length of M1, and widest in the middle of the tooth. |
