Diet Omnivorous. Grasses, forbs, fruits, nuts, carrion, human trash, insects, deer fawns, small mammals, salmon, etc.
Habitat Varied, but often mountainous and heavily vegetated, in relatively inaccessible terrain.
Description Face convex, muzzle often lighter in color. Pelage can range from black to brown to blonde to cinnamon red. Lack well defined shoulder hump.
Skull Characteristics Sagittal and lambdoidal crests small compared to U. arctos, but this varies with age and gender. M2 (last upper molar) <150% length of M1, and widest in the middle of the tooth.
