Habitat Open grassland. No free-ranging populations left in the US.
Description Size of large cow. Large head with short, black horns curving upward. Distinct shoulder hump. Head, neck, shoulders, and forelegs with long, dark shaggy hair; hind part of body with short brown hair. Tail short and tufted.
Skull Characteristics Broad heavy forehead, short horns. Premaxilla separated from nasal by maxilla (cp. to Bos taurus).
