Diet Carnivorous, anything from eggs to full-sized deer; can take down large prey. Ferocious and intelligent.
Habitat boreal forests, mountains, plains and brush lands
Description Largest Mustelid. Dark brown with yellowish sides. Tail short <1/4 body, bushy.
Skull Characteristics Dense, heavy skull. Condylobasal length > 121 mm. Sagittal crest extends 10 mm or more beyond the back of the skull. Mastoid process large, visible from dorsal view. Gulo, Martes: 38 teeth, 4 premolars; upper molar dumbbell shaped (constricted).
