| Description | Suborder Microchiroptera. Orange to yellowish-brown fur, uropatagium densely furred at least on front half; ears low, rounded, and pale. Female more brown, less red than male. Western red bat is generally duller in color than eastern. |
| Skull Characteristics | Lasiurus genus has 1 upper incisor, short skull, wide rostrum (see photo comparison slide 10). Vespertilionidae family, lower incisors are trifid (3 cusps), whereas Molossidae lower incisors are bifid. |
