| Description | North American ground squirrels formerly in the genus Spermophilus have been placed into six new genera: Otospermophilus, Callospermophilus, Urocitellus, (these three occur in Oregon); Ictidomys, Nocitellus, Poliocitellus. Spermophilus in this new taxonomy is limited to Old World ground squirrels. |
