| Description | Furred membrane (patagium) between fore and hind limbs allow squirrel to glide. Tan dorsum, white venter, tail flat and feather-like. Flying squirrels in the Pacific Northwest were only recently named as a separate species from Glaucomy sabrinus, the northern flying squirrel. |
| Skull Characteristics | Delicate and rounded slender rostrum, large bullae, large depressed braincase. Narrow in frontals above orbit. Zygomatic arch vertical as in tree squirrels, but not parallel. Nasals extend beyond incisors and turn down slightly. |
