Welcome! I am Director of Liberal Studies for the College of Liberal
Arts. I also serve the college as the Director of External Relations.
I have two passions: Playing "blues harp" in rock and
blues bands and teaching about philanthropy, charity and voluntarism.
Over the last 25 years I've been employed as a non-profit agency
administrator, development director, private foundation grantmaker,
and corporate grantmaker. I have also served hundreds of non-profit
and corporate clients with grantwriting, strategic planning, organizational
development, and board development services. I am a three time graduate
of San Diego State University and hold an M.A. in Sociology. I have
continued my education as a participant and presenter for numerous
seminars and conferences on philanthropy and fund raising. In June,
2001 I was fortunate to attend Indiana University's Philanthropy
and Liberal Arts Seminar for faculty members. This program expanded
my knowledge of the history and development of America's nonprofit
sector which you will see reflected in the preparation of this class.
