Lecture summary

My own reflection on personal experience and sociological theory provide a starting point for my search for knowledge about giving, charity, and philanthropy. This lecture reveals my own thoughts about my experiences, altruism, self-interest, social groups, voluntary associations, personal questions and quests and how this knowledge may be applied to serve others and self. This material will help the student understand my orientation to the class topics and how philanthropy can be studied using social sciences, the arts, and humanities--the liberal arts.
