In addition to the readings, please watch the Twilight Zone episode: To Serve Man. Check your local library or commercial video rental shops for a copy.

Pick a donor who is making a gift in the following stories and decide who is getting the best gift and why:

• Gift of the Magi
• Tuesday's with Morrie
• The Washerwoman Philanthropist
• The Chair of Philanthromathematics
• Twilight Zone - To Serve Man.

Describe the social exchange that takes place in the story in terms of altruism and self interest from the perspective of your chosen character. In other words, what is the donor giving, and why?

Be sure to include the:

• name of the character
• gift given
• altruistic and/or self-interested reasons for the gift(s).

Post your answer on the discussion board.

NOTE: Consider putting Tuesday's With Morrie as part of the Web site (a short story). Explore the possibility of using the Twilight Zone episode.
