Habitat Riparian and moist areas in forest; coarse woody debris along streams. Range limited to western Oregon and California.
Description Order recently changed from Soricomorpha to Eulipotyphla. Large shrew, pale, reddish-brown, long tail. Pacific shrew (S. pacificus) is indistinguishable in the field from the fog shrew.
Skull Characteristics Members of the family Soricidae have red pigment on the teeth.
