Nutrition Analysis

Interactive Healthy Eating Index

  1. Maintain a diet record for two days.
  2. Login to Interactive Healthy Eating Index.
    • Login as a new user.
      • Enter your name, age, and gender. Save.
    • If you are having trouble accessing or completing the assignment from the above web site or you are vegetarian, try this alternative site: Nutrition Analysis Tool.
  3. Proceed to Food Intake.
    • Enter a food item to search.
      • Scroll down the results list to find most appropriate closest match to the food you ate.
      • Click Add.
    • Repeat for all foods and beverages listed on your 1-day Typical Diet Record.
    • Remember to look up cooking oils, condiments, margarine, dressings, etc.
  1. Once you have a list of all food and beverage items, click Select Quantity.
    • Select a serving size (measuring unit) appropriate to what you ate.
      • Indicate how many of those servings you ate.
    • Repeat for all food and beverages.
  2. When your list is as complete and accurate as you can make it, click Analyze.
    • Or click Analyze Your Food Intake at the top of the screen.
    • Under HEI Score, click Calculate.
      • Print and save the page.
    • Click on Nutrient Intakes at the bottom of the HEI page.
      • Print and save the page.
    • At the bottom of your Nutrient Intake list, click Food Guide Pyramid.
      • Print and save the page.
  3. Complete "Lab 2 Journaling: Energy Expenditure & Caloric Intake" under the LABS tab.
  4. Please follow the due date listed in the Calendar of Assignments.
