Aerobic Fitness Assessment |

Your physical activity choices play a major role in your overall health
and fitness. Unfortunately, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports
that less than half of adults living in the U.S. get the physical activity
needed in order to help reduce the risks of certain chronic diseases such
as: heart disease, diabetes, certain cancers, osteoporosis, and even premature
death. As we age we tend to become less active until the effects take
their toll and reduce ones quality of life. As little as 30 minutes of
day of moderate physical activity, most days of the week, is enough to
reduce the risk of many preventable diseases while helping to maintain
ones quality of life - for a lifetime.
In the aerobic fitness assessment part of this lab you will be able to
assess your aerobic, or cardiovascular, fitness level. By choosing one
of these test and then periodically testing yourself, you can chart if
your aerobic fitness level is improving, staying the same, or dropping.
You will see three types of evaluations, one uses the term recovery index,
another the term VO2max, and the third is based on time. All give a good
indication of your current aerobic fitness status.
