This review is basically a check-off list of the important concepts and processes from chapter 4.

Section 4.1 ~ Exponential Functions

  1. Know the graph and properties of 2 and 2.0 for base a > 1.
  2. Use the graph of 2.1 to sketch related graphs of the form 2.2.
  3. Perform calculator evaluations of 4 for various bases and exponents.
  4. Use the natural exponential function 7in graphing and application problems.
  5. Know when to use the formula for compound interest vs formula for continuously compounded interest.

Section 4.2 ~ Logarithmic Functions

  1. Understand logarithmic functions are the inverse functions of exponential functions.
  2. Know the graph of 9 and how it relates to the graph of 11.
  3. Use properties to express exponential equations in logarithmic form and logarithmic functions in exponential form.
  4. Use curve sketching methods to sketch graphs related to 11.0.
  5. Perform calculator evaluations of 11.1 for various bases a and positive values of x.

Section 4.3 ~ Logarithmic Equations and Identities

  1. Use the properties of logarithms to simplify expressions involving logarithms.
  2. Solve application problems and equations involving logarithms.

Section 4.4 ~ Exponential Equations & Applications

  1. Find exact solutions to equations with an unknown in an exponent.
  2. Find approximate solutions to equations involving exponential & logarithmic functions using a graphing calculator.
  3. Determine if a problem involves exponential growth or decay and find the corresponding equation to solve for an unknown.

Section 4.5 ~ Modeling with Exponential and Logarithmic Functions

  1. Construct exponential models for given data sets using two data points.
  2. Use the models to make predictions.
  3. Solve application problems using exponential models.
