Lab 5
Most everyone knows that physical activity and healthy eating are very important aspects of living a healthy life. However, the rate of many preventable diseases linked to inactivity and unhealthy dietary choices, such as heart disease, type II diabetes, certain cancers, high blood pressure, obesity, etc., are on the rise. If most of us know what it takes to live a healthy life, why isn't the majority of the population in the U.S. doing so? Barriers & obstacles we face in our daily life and environment could be contributing factors to why living a "healthy" lifestyle may be harder today than ever. If the current tends continue, in just a few short years it will be harder to live a healthy lifestyle than it is today. In this lab we will look at and discuss various barriers and obstacles you may have in reaching your goals set in last weeks lab. By learning how to face and overcome possible barriers and obstacles, you will increase your chance of success in reaching your goals. The Barriers Survey, below, looks at various areas in your life that could be barriers and/or obstacles hindering you from being as active as you would like. The lower your score, below 2, the less likely the area is a barrier or obstacle for you being active. However, if you get a higher score (above 2) in a certain area, you have identified a potential barrier or obstacle that may be preventing you from being as active as you would like.
