Wool

Text Transcript

Follow along with the audio...

  • Wool contains a high proportion of cystine (sulfur amino acid)
  • Does this mean we have to be concerned with AA fed to sheep?
    • Need to ensure that diet contains adequate sulfur for microbial synthesis of sulfur AA
  • Energy will have greater influence on wool production
  • Restricted nutrition results in decreased fiber diameter, shorter fiber length, and lighter fleece weights
  • Nutritional stress also can lead to weakness or break in wool fiber
  • Critical protein level appears to be 80 % of recommended requirements
